Macbeth · Act III · Scene VI

Lennox Speaks Between the Lines

Scene summary

Somewhere in Scotland, Lennox comments to another lord, in an ironic tone, on the official account of the deaths of Duncan and Banquo, which puts Macbeth in a good light, and he calls him a tyrant. He says that Macduff fell into disgrace for speaking too freely and for missing the banquet. The lord replies that Macduff went to England to ask King Edward for support for Malcolm, and that Macbeth is already preparing for war.
