Pagode

Popular festivity with music, dance, food, and drink, held in houses, backyards, or courtyards, common in nineteenth-century Rio de Janeiro. The word designated the festive gathering, not yet the genre of samba that, at the end of the twentieth century, came to bear the same name. In the tenement, the Sunday pagode brings together the Portuguese fado and the Brazilian chorado.
