Hamlet · Act IV · Scene II

Hamlet mocks Rosencrantz and Guildenstern

Scene summary

Hamlet has disposed of Polonius's body and does not say where. Questioned by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, who want to take him to the king, he answers in riddles: he says he has mingled the body with the dust it came from, and calls Rosencrantz a sponge that the king squeezes when he needs to. He keeps up the provocation and, in the end, orders that he be taken to the king.
