Literary device

Personification

Giving a thing, an animal or an abstract idea actions, feelings or speech proper to a person.

In Romeo and Juliet

Now old desire doth in his deathbed lie, / And young affection gapes to be his heir

Desire "lies dying" and affection "yearns": human actions attributed to feelings. In this way the Chorus gives the new love a body and an impatience, as if it were eager to inherit.
