Deck Chair

A reclining chair in which the patient spent several hours a day lying outdoors, on balconies or in open galleries. It was part of the rest cure (in German, Liegekur), the standard treatment for tuberculosis from the nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth, based on pure air, rest and good food, before modern medicines replaced this method.
