Julius Caesar · Act IV · Scene II

Cassius Arrives at Sardis

Scene summary

In front of Brutus's tent, near Sardis, Lucilius reports that Cassius received him with courtesy but without the intimacy of before. Brutus recognizes in this a friend who is cooling, and says that sick love fills itself with forced ceremony. Cassius arrives with the army and accuses him of having offended him. Brutus asks that they not quarrel in sight of the soldiers and moves the conversation into the tent, with its entrance guarded.
