A statement that seems to contradict itself or common sense, but which, once thought through, reveals a truth.
In Paradise
the kingdom of heaven suffers violence from burning love and living hope, which overcomes the divine will: not as man overcomes man, but it overcomes it because it wants to be overcome, and, overcome, it overcomes with its benignity
Love and hope "overcome the divine will", but only because it "wants to be overcome". The statement seems to contradict divine omnipotence and, once thought through, shows that grace lets itself be overcome by love, overcoming all the same.
