Sensory Imagery

Description that appeals to the senses (what is seen, heard, smelled, tasted or touched) and makes the reader perceive the scene, not just understand it.

In Crime and Punishment

But the poor boy no longer remembers himself. Shouting, he forces his way through the crowd to the mare, embraces her dead, bloodied muzzle, and kisses it, kisses her on the eyes, on the lips...

The mare appears “dead, bloodied,” with its muzzle embraced and its eyes and lips kissed. The details of blood and contact make the reader see and feel the scene together with the boy.
